Start Me up currently has 7 Sport Fishing vessels departing from Lahaina Harbor. All are 42ft (loa) Bertram Sportfishers. Cruising Speed: 22 knots Top Speed: 26 knots.
Maui sport fishing adventures from Lahaina may take you around the islands of Lanai, Molokai, Kahoolawe or Molokini, offering the fishing guest a rare experience afforded only a few of Hawaii's visitors! You will see more see life on Fishing excursions than any other tour as we go out so far off shore. On Maui fishing trips you'll have a change to hook up to a variety of Marlin species, Mahi Mahi (Dorado), Ahi (Tuna), Ono (Wahoo) and more.
*I had the pleasure of going out on 1 of Start Me Ups (7) fishing boats over the Lahaina Wahine Jackpot Tournament. We had Captain Denny Putman & Capt. Randy. AS we headed out; ti leaves ready, Captain Denny knew just where to go. Since we were in Tournament...we were after the BIG FISH~Pacific Blue Marlin!
1 of their other boats had caught a Marlin the day before, so we headed out to that area off Lana'i. The crew really cared about getting fish for everyone...& I have to say I was very impressed with the crew; after Randy set the lines and we we're on our way out.
Captain Denny Putnam came downstairs and had each 1 of us ladies sit in the fighting chair, so we could get comfortable with everything. He showed us how to use the real, move the line, how to use our legs instead of our backs and shoulders etc. Each of us spent 5-10 minutes in the chair, even Rona who goes fishing all the time (her boat caught the 795# Marlin last year) wanted to practice.
As Captain Denny said...he wants to catch that big fish just as much as we do, so he likes to improve all of our chances by giving us hands on learning instruction first. (something I am told he does on all of his charters, If you are thinking of fishing from Lahaina, I would highly recommend Start Me Ups ~Das it and it's crew)
FYI: I understand Captain Denny can be the exception to the rule...please feel free to ASK your crew for hands on instructions to make you more comfortable in the fighting chair.

*A few Maui fishing boats our of lahaina are doing the "extreme" sport fishing: departing at 2:30-3:30AM to be out at the buoys by dawn. These are 9 hour trips for the same price as a 8 hour normal charter. Most Lahaina sport fishing boats depart earlier than Maalaea Boats. Check in is at 5:15 for most morning trips (usually)
