Bottom Fishing with Marjorie Ann

Marjorie Ann: Fun Fish Photos

Bottom Fishing in Hawaii is more family friendly vs Sport Fishing. If you have children, especially under the age of 10 years old, reserve a Bottom Fishing excursion while on the Island of Maui, Hawaii.

Most Sport Fishing vessels do not allow children under the age of 10. Just as well, because Sport fishing can be boring for children. There is no action until the boat has a fish on line...

Bottom Fishing allows an angler to actually catch his own fish, not just reel it in. The interaction is way fun!

Bait your own hook, drop it over the side of the boat and pull it back up in a few minutes later, hopefully with a nice size Fish!

Pacific Blue Marlin Tagged and Released Today!

Marlin!
Pacific Blue Marlin about 150#,
Just caught on Rascal Fishing Charters. Tuesday April 18th, 2017.
Captain Kevin Hogan and Captain Kamal
This is the 2nd Marlin caught today! See this morning's blog post below for the Spearfish caught earlier this morning.
I usually tell fishermen that most Marlin are caught later in the day, not first thing in the morning like Tuna and Mahi Mahi.

Call 808-879-6260 for more information!

Today's Fresh Catch-Spearfish!

Rascal Sport Fishing Charters just reeled in a Spearfish Marlin!

 Captain Kamal and Happy Fisherman

Shortbill Spearfish are commonly known as Hebi here in Hawaii.
The shortbill spearfish is a species of Marlin native to Pacific Ocean and abound around the Hawaiian Islands. Call 808-879-6260 to go fishing for Marlin in Hawaii.

The Spearfish Marlin's dorsal fin is shorter than other Bill-fish species, and its bill is very short in comparison. Spearfish can get up to 7 ft. long, however normally max out at 6 ft. or so. Spearfish can also weigh up to 115 pounds!

Hawaiian Spearfish is a sushi grade fish, with a mild flavor that is slightly stronger than Ahi Tuna.

Here is a recipe i found online:

 Hawaiian Style Fried Hebi Poke
(By chef Nawai Kekoolani, Big Island Steak House,
second-place winner in this year's third annual
Hawaiian Seafood Festival at Aloha Tower Marketplace)

2 pounds fresh Hebi (shortbill spearfish)
1/2 cup soy sauce
Juice of 3 lemons
4 teaspoons sesame oil
1/4 cup chopped green onions
3 tablespoons brown sugar
3 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 pound ogo (seaweed)

Cut fish into 2-inch cubes. In a large mixing bowl, mix all ingredients, except the oil and ogo; refrigerate 1 hour.
Heat oil in a wok and sear poke for no longer than 30 seconds. Garnish with the ogo. Makes 16 servings, each 1/2 cup.

Ono is so Ono!

Today's Fresh Catch

Rascal Fishing Charters caught a Ono a half hour out at 6:30 AM.
Ono in Hawaiian also means "good to eat" as in: "Da Fish stay Ono" means The Fish is Good Tasting.
It is quite fitting as Ono (Wahoo) is also very good tasting fish, very Ono.
